We've made it 7 weeks!

I've been hoping to share several humorous stories, but haven't been able to come up with much. Kasen is amazing and adorable everyday. We have lots of conversations about politics, sports, home renovation (since HGTV is our most favorite channel), spit-up, poop, toes, fingers and everything under the sun. Although I do most of the talking; Kasen and Meadow just look at me like I'm crazy.

I figured out quickly how to pull onesies down to the feet instead of up over the head. Matt's favorite story is my poop story. I went to change Kasen's diaper and turns out he wasn't done yet. Once I realized that he wasn't done, I waited a few more moments for him to finish, then I went to switch out diapers and he went some more. All over his onesie, clothes, changing table, my hand...it was gross. I actually looked at Kasen and said, "Oh my gosh, now what do I do." Classic, right? :)

Honestly, Kasen's reflux has been our biggest problem. We pretty much have that figured out and once we upped his dosage (after another trip to the peds office) after he gained a few pounds he's doing well again. We know how lucky we are to have such a calm and relaxed baby. I can't imagine getting less sleep than what I get, but I know it happens to many. I was someone that needed 7 to 8 hours to be able to function, that's pretty funny to think about now.

One thing I know for sure - I am so glad that Matt has the job he has. I would be home alone all week and home alone all weekend as well if we hadn't made that change. I know I would not have been able to handle that! We have lots of fun times on weekends and are getting used to taking the entire house with us whenever we leave.

Meadow is also doing awesome and loves her little brother. She has become quite protective and keeps track of where Kasen is at all times. It's pretty cute; I'm so proud of her!

Merry Christmas!!! We have the best present ever!

New Babies Smell Great....At The Top End

December 4, 2011

Well it has been 1 month and two days since the birth of our new baby boy Kasen James! Mom and Dad are doing great. Kasen has been thoughtful enough to at least let give us a few hours of sleep a night, although Laura is the one who has been operating on the least amount of sleep in our household. We did have a few rough nights when we figured out Kasen had reflux and was pretty miserable both day and night. Laura did a little research and when she took him to the doctor was relieved to know we could help treat Kasen's reflux. After a little medicine, our sweet baby boy was back to his regular self.

Outside of that, we have made some funny observations like the dog ALWAYS knows where Kasen is and will often sit at a higher vantage point in the room to make sure that she has a clear view. Those family and friends that have stopped by can probably attest to that.

Babies have gas. Not little bits of occasional gas, but make you swing your head around from the opposite side of the room gas. Laura and I just look at each other and start laughing because of the volume and frequency. I don't know who he learned this from but...because I can...it must be the dog!

I always thought people were weird when they said they loved the new baby smell, I now understand. I love rocking him and smelling that new baby smell. That and giving little kisses on the chubby little cheeks and head of Kasen are two of my favorite things to do. Now i have learned...the lower you go the less cute the smell becomes. Kasen is now starting to give us some more eventful diapers to change and Laura has a great poopy diaper story that I am sure she will share soon.

Other than that we have been doing well and just finished putting together a Christmas card with our new family to send out soon. If you happen to get one look at the Kasen and Meadow picture it is one of my favorites, I have been laughing about since I have seen it. Laura took the pictures and did a great job and we now have lots of 1 month pictures to have in the future. That is about it for me, but hopefully I will be a little more on the ball and write a little more timely blog post. Until next time I hope everyone has a great Christmas!
